New status by m: The Left-wing aversion to teaching kids—especially poor nonwhite kids—about great literature versus crap modern books that pander to their ‘life experience’ isn’t just designed to tear down the straight white male citadel of culture. It’s also rooted in classist, racist progressive assumptions that these kids can’t handle anything more complicated or profound. This is wrong. The same bigotry of low expectations is behind the push to ignore proper spelling and grammar. All it does is condemn the kids to the socioeconomic circumstances into which they were born. Every child deserves the chance to experience the best that has been thought, written, painted and composed. If the state insists on providing education, it must celebrate true excellence.
