The Internal Revenue Service received a $80 billion boost in funding last year as part of the $1.2 trillion Inflation Reduction Act, and announced plans to hire tens of thousands of agents and spend billions of dollars on “enforcement.” The move comes amid decades-old concerns about the growing militarization of law enforcement in the US.
